Roadwork Updates

North Stamford residents have been feeling the effects of various road and bridge projects throughout 2024. We’ve recapped a few recent updates here – some North of the Merritt Parkway, and some below (but still of interest to our community).

Lakeside Drive Bridge

Good news! The work is complete and the bridge is open for traffic as of Monday, December 9th. This should greatly reduce the traffic headaches on High Ridge Road and the surrounding area. More info here.

Perna Lane

If you’ve been following the weekly (ahem) updates from the city on this project (the most recent “weekly” update was October, 22nd, 2024. The previous update was July 8th, 2024), you’ll know that things are not going as originally planned.

  • Construction Progress: High Ridge Road work paused for winter paving; local road installations continue, with delays on Somerset Lane due to rock. Work moves next to Willard Terrace.
  • Additional $2,000,000 Appropriation Request: Unforeseen conditions (removal of rock outcrops) required additional work outside of the scope of the project. Funds will be utilized to cover the additional cost of construction and contract administration during construction.
  • Assessment Costs: Costs, based on bathroom count, will be finalized post-project and payable over 15 years.
  • Connection Timeline: Sewer connections will start in 2025 after Phase 1 is completed and tested.

You can get more detail here.

Cedar Heights Road Bridge

  • Completion Delayed Again: The bridge rebuild, initially set for November 2023, now aims for April 2025 after height discrepancies were discovered.
  • Impact on Wire Mill Road Project: Further delays risk jeopardizing federally funded replacement of the Wire Mill Road bridge, which must begin by April 2025 to meet a strict end-of-year deadline.
  • Contractor Challenges & Criticism: A. Vitti Excavators cites third-party delays for setbacks, while city officials and representatives express frustration with the repeated postponements and project management issues.
