4/19/2017. Press Release, Town of New Canaan, New Canaan, CT
In an effort to address a long-standing and significant lack of public safety radio coverage in the northwest corner of New Canaan, the town engaged in a lengthy process to identify suitable solutions. Given the various constraints of topography and accessibility, we sought out the optimal solution that would also have the least impact to the public and the environment. Possible solutions were identified within New Canaan; as well as in neighboring Pound Ridge and Stamford. After exhaustive work, it has been determined that the most viable solution would involve a monopole whip antenna located in the City of Stamford on land owned by Aquarion Water Company. At the forefront of our minds has always been the desire to have the solution pose as minimal an impact as possible to those residents in closest proximity to the proposed site. After receiving feedback from the Stamford community, it has become clear that the perceived impact to Stamford homeowners was larger than we anticipated. While this is an important public safety concern for New Canaan, so too is the relationship that the town of New Canaan has with neighboring towns. Cooperation, collaboration and good neighborly respect is more important now than ever before. With this in mind, the First Selectman of New Canaan, Rob Mallozzi, has chosen to withdraw the application from the Stamford Zoning Board and pursue alternative solutions in New Canaan.
