City Announces Immediate Closure of Riverbank Road Bridge Over the East Branch of the Mianus River, Bridge is between Laurel Ledge Road and Hedge Brook Lane

STAMFORD, CT – The Connecticut Department of Transportation – Bridge Safety and Evaluation Unit (ConnDOT) inspected the Riverbank Road Bridge over the East Branch of the Mianus River this week. The Evaluation Unit determined that the bridge is unstable due to collapsed abutments in the center of the bridge and notified the City that the bridge should be closed to traffic.

Based on this finding, the City’s Office of Operations is immediately closing the structure to traffic. The bridge is located on Riverbank Road between Laurel Ledge Road and Hedge Brook Road.

The attached map indicates the detour that will be used during this closure.

The City was already in the process of designing the bridge’s replacement. Based on this new information, the City is looking at multiple options to expedite replacing the bridge.
