Update on New Canaan’s proposed antenna

3/2/17. Thank you to North Stamford residents for attending and/or contacting us regarding the meeting the North Stamford Association (NSA) held Tuesday night.  The purpose of the meeting was to have the New Canaan Town officials present their plans and rational for an emergency antenna tower to be built in Stamford near the Laurel Reservoir.  Both the residents and Board members of the NSA listened to the presentation by New Canaan Town officials and the remarks from NSA members and neighbors.  The NSA has scheduled a Board meeting next week to develop our official position and course of action.

Upon initially hearing about the proposed antenna, the NSA quickly moved to have the Zoning Board hearing originally scheduled for February 13th postponed until March 13th.  This postponement would allow all parties to understand the need for the antenna, why this antenna to meet New Canaan’s communication needs is proposed to be built in Stamford and, if it is, why Stamford’s zoning regulations need to be changed to allow such towers to be built in all Stamford 1, 2 and 3-acre properties.

In response to one reoccurring question, there unfortunately is no requirement that proposals such as this antenna require a public hearing before presentation to the Zoning Board.

We will keep you posted of developments and plans as they occur.
