RELEASE DATE: March 8, 2017
The North Stamford Association (NSA) Board of Directors convened on March 7th to discuss the Town of New Canaan’s application to place a communication antenna on the Aquarion Water Company property in North Stamford.
The Board discussed the presentation by Town of New Canaan (NC) officials at the community meeting organized by the NSA at which NC officials presented their plan and engaged in questions and answers with over 100 North Stamford residents. In addition, the NSA Board has met with or communicated directly with numerous other NSA members regarding their concerns.
Based on the information presented to date, NC has failed to prove that there are no reasonable alternative site or technology responses that NC may utilize in lieu of placing the antenna within the visual proximity of North Stamford residents. The NSA Board believes that there are serious quality of life issues as well as potential financial and life/safety implications for the numerous residential homes near or in view of the antenna and for North Stamford as a whole. There remain numerous unanswered questions in this regard.
The NSA was pleased to hear of Mayor David Martin’s decision to postpone the scheduled March 13th Zoning Board vote on this controversial issue.
Therefore, based on all information compiled and presented to date, the North Stamford Association opposes the application by the Town of New Canaan to place a communications antenna on the Aquarion Water Property in North Stamford.
